Steal It!: Ancient Greek Sandals vs. River Island (and Forever 21)

I came across Ancient Greek Sandals brand last year when I was searching for a new pairs of flat sandals for summer. Their 'Ikaria' sandals have been on my Wishlist for almost a year now (I definitely have a weakness for any clothing items/footwear with wings, first Jeremy Scott for Adidas and now this =.=). I haven't been able to find any sandals which are similar to the 'Ikaria' ones but I saw these River Island sandals last week when I was browsing online and they're so similar to Ancient Greek Sandals' 'Medea'. I also found a similar pair from Forever 21 but they are sadly sold out now :( (if you're living in the US, you can still find the black version here)
Price
£140
£20-35
Colours
8 colours
3 colours
Material
100% leather
PU + Plastic sole

'Medea' sandals definitely have higher quality as they are 100% natural leather and hand-made to order, which is reflected on their prices. Ancient Greek Sandals also offers way more beautiful colours, I absolutely love the silver and nude version of the sandals and if they were (a lot) cheaper, I would buy two pairs in nude and silver. River Island's colours are limited and not very pretty but I have only seen their photos online so I'm not sure if they look this bad in store.

Conclusion:
To be honest, I won't purchase Ancient Greek Sandals 'Medea', at least not within this year. I lose interest in one item very quickly and since I can't really afford to spend £140 on a pair of flat sandals at the moment, I'd rather spend less money on a similar pair and probably through them out after a few months. If the Forever 21 sandals were still available, I would definitely purchase them as they are cheaper, more similar to the original ones and River Island's colours are a bit too "sparkly" for me. But now that they are sold out, I will probably keep searching for a similar pair from other brands.

Which pair would you choose? Leave a comment below to let me know =)

  1. I like this style of sandals, although I wouldn't spend that much on them as we do not get such nice weather in Ireland for sandals, I would probably purchase the River Island ones :) Great post!

  3. I much prefer the nicer ones - they look better quality and I'm not too fond of the studs. But what I would end up choosing would depend a lot of on my budget!

    1. I prefer the original version ('Medea' sandals) too! F21 has a very similar version but they're all sold out in the UK. You can try to order from the US with the link I posted in the post xx

  5. http://www.greek-sandals.com/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=&P_ID=937.

they say world wide free shipping.

got a pair at 70euros from this manufacturer, he is at the island of Naxos, great quality! - just not available in many colours, only natural tan leather.

this is a classic greek design, many manufacturers have it, and the prices vary from 40 to 70 euros.

even this one has one in classic brown leather wiht a different though excellent sole, B & B GREEK LEATHER SANDALS, for 55 euros, but i am afraid he does not sell them on the internet, i just happened to walk by his shop window and saw them a couple of days ago...

    1. Hey, thank you so much for the links! I actually love the winged ones better and I can't even afford 70eur for a pair of sandals at the moment but it's nice to have a lot of options xx

    2. you know, i wanted the wings too, but wings here are considered a bit... how should i say it... pittoresque? they remind people of school or summer plays of greek ancient drama, with Hermes wearing them, and are being bought only by tourists... and being 37, i decided to buy something that i can wear at work too... not to mention that there is not such a good "copy" yet:)

but they are amazing, especially the black ones with the platinum wings!
